ROVER 14 - #873 |
The pram bow and "V" shaped bottom of this little craft make it a top all purpose dinghy/runabout. The pram bow gives it the ability to carry loads that would be too great for a hull of the more common configuration. The wide beam aft gives plenty of buoyancy for helmsmen and outboard so that it rides well without raising the nose too much while the shape of the bottom panels gives good stability and control. As a tender, a 6 hp outboard would be enough to drive her at a reasonable speed but she is capable of handling bigger engines for use as a fishing boat on sheltered waterways, up to 25 hp. Plans are available for plywood construction with side panels of 1/4" and bottom of 5/16" or 3/8". These are more sturdy than may be expected in a boat of this size so that she would serve well as a general workboat. Hull shape is a very shallow "V', 9 degrees at the transom. Plans with full size patterns.
