TUNNEL HULL RACER 9 - # TU 9 |
The sleek tunnel racer, by Clark Craft, has been designed to use any outboard engine from 7 1/2 to 25 horsepower. This boat has been designed with the 25 S. S. Class in mind and should qualify for this class if racing one of these smaller tunnel or hydro designs is your goal. Because of the deeper tunnel sections over the same size hydro plane, these tunnel boats are softer riding and can generally go through rougher, choppier water at higher speeds. In addition, the transom area is generally wider and can carry more weight aft. TU 9 does not set as low in the water (at rest) as some of the other hydro designs. If you are interested in having the most unique and certainly one of the fastest running boats, equaled only by hydroplanes, our tunnel hull, TU 9, is the answer. You will be amazed how smooth it does run in rough water and its handling characteristics are excellent in almost any type of weather. Plans with full size patterns. Speeds up to 30 MPH Requires long shaft outboard. Photo gives you a good view of the bottom tunnel area of the TU 9; note the extra heavy framing members (battens) running fore and aft, which add additional rigidity to the bottom of this design. Photo also gives you a good view of the depth and length of the tunnel, plus the additional transom width, which gives added flotation. |
Step by Step Instructions - Step by step instructions have been designed for those who have never built a boat before. As you can see in drawing at left and right, each part in the hull is assigned a number, this number in turn can be marked on each piece of lumber and plywood. Using this technique an amateur can easily build any design listed on this site. |
